Grape 100% Garnache is full bodied, with notes of dark berries at the front and viscous mouthfeel leads into an earthy finish. This low-intervention wine is lightly filtered with no SO2 added.
100% Garnacha/Grenache from vines that are at least 25 years old. Poor schist soils in an altitude of 1.350 meters are very important for the depth of this wine. The grapes are hand-picked to make sure only the perfect ripened clusters go for maceration, which occurs in stainless steel. There’s no temperature manipulation or addition of chemical components at all. The roundness of Garnacha meets the juicy level of acidity and makes anyone dive into the depth of black fruits and currant. Natural wine!
Since 1979, Manual Valenzuela makes wine in the high mountains of Contraviesa, more specifically in Alpujarra, in Granada, Andalusia. At that time, he was the pioneer in planting single grape plots also introducing foreign quality grapes varieties and recovering ancient Varietals like the unknown Vigiriega. After about 10 years of natural winemaking, the winery was certified organic by Spainish regulations. For Manuel's philosophy and taste, the Organic Certification is not rigorous enough to make sure the wines show identity, that's why he's declined the certification in the past years. His son, Lorenzo, is also part of the non-intervencionist/natural winemaking process. The fact the vineyard is basically in the clouds (the highest in Europe - about 1.300m of altitude) makes their wines very unique. A dry and breezy climate and a schist composed and poor soil are the key fact for such a finesse and idenity in the resultant wines. This 100% Garnacha is full bodied, with notes of dark berries at the front. a viscous mouthfeel leads into an earthy finish.
